NAV is replete with user configurable options and includes several handy tools which perform essential tasks like automatically downloading the latest NAV virus definition updates (via LiveUpdate), creating an emergency backup disk in case a virus infects your system's boot sector or RAM (via Norton Rescue), and automatically scanning your files in the background for viruses (via Auto-Protect).
Scheduling routine background scans is another quick and painless process thanks to the integrated Norton Program Scheduler. And while pre-5.0 releases of NAV could be set up as a helper application for your favorite browser, the 5.0 and later releases offer an integrated Web browser plug-in that automatically scans file downloads for you. Unfortunately, the plug-in only works on Netscape at this time.
